The beginning of the languages courses for customs officers
Courses in English and Ukrainian languages funded under the Norwegian grants in the Project "Safety in Schengen area – to increase the effectiveness of the Mazovia and Western Pomerania region customs officers in the fight against cross–border and organized crime" started on September 7, at the Customs Chamber in Warsaw and at the Customs Chamber in Szczecin.
The aim of the course is to acquire and improve the knowledge of English and Ukrainian language related to customs-law vocabulary. The course focuses on following issues:
- description of the activities performed during the control – using of the vocabulary related to performed activities,
- communication with the person under the customs control,
- criminal proceedings – documents, vocabulary, asking the questions,
- developing the ability of a fluent conversation.
Two semester course includes classes twice a week in 2–hour session for 270 participants (194 from Customs Chamber in Warsaw and 76 from Customs Chamber in Szczecin). Each group consists of maximum 8 persons. Each student is provided with a set of training materials – student’s book and exercise book.
The courses are conducted in accordance with the language proficiency levels defined by the European Framework of Reference for Languages formulated by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe at levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C.
